Module 2
Masking — consciously or unconsciously is a trauma response, which means Autistic people suppress their traits to fit in, and this comes at a cost.
This module explores what masking is, how it develops, the toll it can take on your wellbeing, and what Autistic burnout may look and feel like.
Most importantly, it explores paths to finding safe spaces to unmask on your own terms, recovering from burnout, and the importance of community.
What This Module Covers
- What masking is and how it develops over a lifespan
- Recognising your own masking patterns
- The relationship between masking and Autistic burnout
- Signs of burnout — and how it differs from other stress or depression
- Strategies for safe, gradual unmasking when it feels right for you
- Recovery and self-compassion after burnout
