Hello and welcome,
Wonderful you are here!
This space is for anyone exploring the Discovery Programme and exploring their Autistic identity.
Everyone here has been a past participant of Thriving Autistics ‘ Discovery Programme.
There’s no expectation about how often you post, how much you share, or how polished your words need to be as long as you feel safe and comfortable. Lurking is welcome. So is checking in once and never coming back. So is becoming a regular voice.
A few things that make this space work
This is a community-held space, not a staff-moderated one — which means we’re all responsible for keeping it safe and welcoming, in line with our Values and Solidarity statement.
This forum is for people who have completed the Discovery Programme, aged 18+. Access is by invitation — please don’t share your invite with anyone else.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Use identity-first language (e.g. “Autistic person”), and respect how others describe themselves.
- No hate speech, ableism, racism, transphobia, homophobia, or bigotry of any kind — including toward body size, religion, class, or immigration status.
- No harassment, doxxing, threats, or unwanted contact.
- No promoting autism “cures,” ABA, or PBS — critical discussion from lived experience is always welcome.
- No medical advice, and no judging others’ treatment or medication choices.
- Don’t take screenshots or share anything from this forum elsewhere, including in other group chats you may share with people from your cohort.
- Add a trigger warning (TW) before posting about trauma, abuse or other upsetting topics.
- You can leave or step away from any conversation at any time — no explanation needed.
- Assume good intent — we communicate differently across neurotypes.
This is not a crisis service. If you or someone you love needs urgent support, free, confidential, 24/7 text support is available: 50808 (Ireland), 85258 (UK), 741741 (US and Canada).
We won’t be watching every thread, but we will step in for serious harm (threats, doxxing, targeted harassment, illegal content, immediate risk to safety). Please flag anything like this to us straightaway and email: hello@thrivingautistic.org
Looking for 1:1 support? Try the Neurodivergent Practitioner Directory: https://neurodivergentpractitioners.org/
These community guidelines are open for discussion. Please let us know how this feels for you and if you’d like any further accommodations to meet your needs.
We are glad you’re here!
Best Wishes,
Thriving Autistic Team
